2 ABSU Lecturers, Others Kidnapped by Supposed Herdsmen


It has been reported that two lecturers at Abia State University, Uturu and some other people were on late Thursday, robbed and abducted by gunmen believed to be herdsmen along the ABSU -- Isuikwuato Road.

 
From details given by V U. Nkemdirim, the Chairperson of ABSU’s Academic Staff Union of Universities, the ugly incident happened around 6.00 pm.
 
In his statement, the victim lecturers re Rev. Prof. S.O Eze, Department of Industrial Chemistry Dr Chris Afulike from the Department of Mass Communication as well as a Methodist minister who were on transit in their separate vehicles.

Nkemdirim said that the two staff drove into armed Fulani herdsmen as they were robbing passing vehicles.
 
'After the robbery operation, the armed men made away with the two lecturers and some others yet to be identified.'

'Presently, we have yet to see them. Nevertheless, Dr Chris Afulike' Camry car has been found with his phone inside the car,' said Nkemdirim.

The ABSU ASUU boss said that the lecturers' family substantiated the happening, and the University management has been intimated on the matter and taking necessary moves to ensure their safe release.

Adding also that ASUU national body and relevant security Operatives have also been reached.
